What I naively started over a year ago is finally finished. 😅

I've recreated Lemmings in PICO-8, including all 100 levels from the original NES version!

Lemmings - a pico-8 demake

I tried to stay as close as possible to the original gameplay, while taking inspiration from the Amiga and SNES versions for the presentation and overall feel.
A huge thanks to Eric Billingsley for creating the fantastic soundtrack, and to MissMouse for the amazing CANVAS and PAKRAT libraries that made this project possible.

It's been quite a journey getting the whole thing squeezed into PICO-8, but I'm really happy to finally have it out there.
Hope you enjoy it! And I'd love to hear what you think. 😊

The article is great, thanks! 😊 I tried to leave a comment, but it didn't seem to go through... or maybe it'll end up being a double post now. 😄

Oh wow! How did I miss this?! 😅 Thank you so much for the article and the kind words!

Haha, that’s actually intentional! 😄 The lemmings on the original title screen don’t pull in sync either, so I kept it that way to stay faithful to the original.

And you can use up and down to quickly skip between difficulty levels (Fun, Tricky, Taxing, and Mayhem).

Thanks so much! Really glad you like it! 😊 They are a little paler in the original, although definitely not pure white. I went with the closest skin tone available in the PICO-8 palette.:)

Yes! The lemmings_p8.zip contains 12 carts in total: 1 main cart and 11 data carts.
Just put them all in the same folder, launch lemmings.p8.png, and you'll have the complete game with all 100 levels.

Thanks, glad you enjoyed it!
Get used to the pattern, don’t panic, and the boss turns into an easy win 🙂

Happy to hear that, thanks!

A faithful tribute that captures every little detail of the original game developed by Nintendo in 1984.

Thanks for checking it out!
Just tested it again on Windows and it works fine here.
I also asked a few others and they haven’t had any issues either.
Make sure you’re running an updated PICO-8 (v0.2.7).
let me know if that fixes the problem!

Thanks a lot, really appreciate it!
I thought a CRT filter would capture those old Amiga vibes.
But hey, you can always switch it off :) or check out the clean version on the Lexaloffle BBS

Thanks again for checking it out!

Wow, can’t believe this actually reached you Ian, the guy who made the original, no less. That’s the ultimate seal of approval. Thank you so much!

Had to give it a go!  really nice to hear that, thanks!

Thanks guys, really appreciate the kind words and you taking the time to check it out!
@kikendo : the lock-on is just visual 😅
Ran out of tokens... so you'll have to aim like a proper mech pilot 😉
