Searching for submissions with Unconventional Art

Hi! I want to use this topic to bring attention to any submissions that use non-traditional art in the use of sprites.

My definition of traditional would be regular art, digitally-drawn. And some examples of non-traditional would fit into the following categories: photography, pixel art, 3D models, Live2D, video, photoshop collages, maybe no sprites at all, etc.

I will use our submission as an example:

https://sachascg.itch.io/your-love-is-a-drug

Our game uses 3D models instead of tried-and-true traditional sprites and edited photography as backgrounds, reminicent of Ryukishi07 VN style.

I would like to see more of these types of games! Plug your submissions!

Our project makes extensive use of photography! I've come across a few others using photographic backgrounds too.

Hi, my team's game might fit in some aspects.

https://fisheranimal.itch.io/what-hath-god-wrought

We do have "traditional" looking 2-D anime talksprites. Both human and also shin megami tensei inspired demons.

HOWEVER, we also have 3-D Dungeon Crawling elements (some readers have compared to Doom), experimental photobashed backgrounds (which I photoshopped using my own photos + public domain images + glitch aesthetics), and some other experimental elements the more you read ! We tried our best to push the capabilities of the Ren'Py engine while also doing a sendup of y2k / denpa / 90s anime aesthetics.

Thanks very much if you check it out.

not sure if it’s exactly what you mean, but my game had fully hand drawn illustrations in marker and colored pencil, and then a hidden section with photo collage splash images. That section is currently broken tho and I’m working to fix it, but it does exist. https://earacorn.itch.io/lepiota-and-the-witch-of-want
