I just paid via Github sponsor. Minimal fees. Sharing my fee exploration: At the top of this page, it says:
NOTE: "Pay with Paypal" is preferred over "Pay with Card" due to transaction fees. Why not mention/point to Github? I guess because most people already have PayPal set up, so less friction=more likely to complete payment? For me, knowing fees will take a huge cut creates way more friction, but I surmise I'm unusual.
Also, a PayPal page claims: When you send money in the U.S. to Friends and Family using your Balance Account or your bank account, we waive all fees, so we always show you these payment options first, even if you have a set a preferred payment method for your online purchases.
Well, I'm about to pay a bit extra, and via the payment option they show as
{PayPal Debit Card
$[adequate] PayPal balance}
Hoping and curious whether Ajay will get the full amount. I'm surmising not-as I think Ajay Ramachandran is in Canada... if it's handled as a donation, I think PayPal will keep ~15% of it. With Github, 0% if it goes straight to Ajay, otherwise 3-6%. So I've switched to Github. Paid. Looks like it's 100% going to him as an individual developer. Woot! PS: Or not, after paying, I noticed ajayyy-org is an Org per its github page; still, very low fee.
