Yeah, basically it's lots of time before heart spawn, and this mechanic looks a bit useless :)

Oh I see. It was just meant as a transition to get people from a mouse-hold state to a released one where they could click to shoot. I thought it felt better than just hovering over the Hold area, and the you can also bail on your countdown if you want. The gun cocking itself isn't tied to the heart spawn though.
