Our developers have mastered JavaScript. This allows them to build excellent things using an engine based on that language. Godot and Unity are built on completely different foundations, so using them freely—the way we currently use RPG MZ—would require learning a different language. And the most important reason is this: we don't want to create a game tailored to an engine; we want to create an engine tailored to our games. This will enable us to produce higher-quality games.

Didn't consider that, I wasn't even aware that RPG MZ uses JS! Thanks for the reply, can't wait to try it out once it's ready.
