Thank you for your thoughts! One of our thoughts was we didn't want to add too many different colours to the game since it might be confusing as to what to mix to get what colour, and it felt experience-breaking to have like a help panel  for that, so we limited the number of colours. But at the same time that meant that the puzzles had to be a little simple :D we did try to get creative by adding more mechanics (such as the wand dipping) but we didn't want to overwhelm our players (like you mentioned with forgetting buttons), so we made a small tradeoff there :)

I think the wand dipping was really good! The issue wasn't that there were too many controls, more that they were too far apart on my keyboard. using Z/X/C + arrow keys would be a lot more ergonomic.
