Fellow A6 gamer here! Are you opening the game from the itch.io launcher, and does it show you like a pop-up list of multiple files of the game that it asks for you to open? Because if so then, you've probably been playing on one of the older versions instead without realizing.
Make sure to check that the game's version you're opening is Version 9.1
