Recently started playing and only just been able to clear the library.  The game offers 2 books to steal suggesting that which book you steal offers a different path....but I've stolen both books and have seen the same options appear.

My expectation is that the Thief book would unlock the option to pad my boots in future (permanent unlock) runs to make stealing easier or perhaps give a boost to agility in the current run (single run only unlock).  Then the other book would give a boost to magic, but harder to steal maybe?

However the option to pad boots appears AFTER the library where I'd expect it to appear before as you learn better following each run?

I do like these loop games though, but I think I'm looking for something that sits in-between Increlution (which generally just has flat skill improvements till much later in the game) and Terraformation (which offers things you permanently learn that improve future runs beyond skills, but is significantly more complicated to play).  Terraformation did however start with skill based actions, but the dev then changed it so each individual action would improve instead of a related skill.

For Acts 1 and 2, the branching paths available are more so relatively simple "this or that" kind of choices and that's deliberate. Act 3 onward is where the story definitely allows for more interesting divergence of paths and more player agency. I see where you're coming from especially with the Pad my Boots task but the choice was the book itself because each book already gives you separate upgrades. You get the individual bonuses from each book after you Decipher Spellbook and then do an optional task related to each book. Anyway, glad that you played it even if it wasn't quite what you were interested in. The core loop may change somewhat in the future, but how it plays now is almost certainly very close to how it will play when everything is complete.
