It’s been about three months. How is this coming along?

While I really do appreciate the wiki, it’d be nice promotionally to be able to point to a PDF that someone can get.

Hi Alexander 🙂

First of all, thank you so much for the  continued interest in Fantasy World. It's really awesome, and I hope you are still able to enjoy the game even in its current "commercially indisposed" state 😁

Yes, having the PDF available sooner rather than later would be best. Once the file is available it would take little extra effort to set up a couple of PoD options to make physical copies available too. Unfortunately, life happens and plans get derailed. Still, I would like to offer you at least a small status update and future timeline 👍

I am currently absorbed by the final stages of my Master in game development, which directed me towards the development of Torque Arena (miniature sports game) and its companion game Torque Saga (solo journaling rpg in the solarpunk world of Torque).

Additionally, some family struggles will pretty much occupy my upcoming months, at least until September. Then I still have a master thesis to write, but that's a problem for future me 😅

Luca is also absorbed by life necessities. And some very interesting design work that I am not at liberty to discuss here 😎

Hence, Fantasy World is our top priority project "after everything else we can't ignore or postpone" 😬

Still, we finished wrapping things up with MS Edizioni, which took longer than expected. And got back the original working files for the Fantasy World rulebook pdf. Now, here's the rub...

At the time of my last post it was not immediately clear that in order to put forward a non-MS Fantasy World pdf we would need to literally re-build the file from the ground up. Even using the same art and assets and text and cloning the original layout (all of which were produced and are owned by Luca and I) the new file needs to be manually re-laid out again... which requires time and effort. And since we are doing it, I want to incorporate all the typos and errata that players reported throughout the years... which adds a little extra time and work on top.

So the current "plan" is to rebuild the FW pdf + errata as soon as possible, definitely before starting work on a second edition of the game proper.

The problem is, unfortunately, that "as soon as possible" is not going to be until a few more months, at least. And we have currently no way to draft a reasonable timeline. I would love to have the PDF back online not long after the summer months, but I can't offer any assurances. Maaaybe sometime before the end of the year could be more realistic? But again, more pressing matters might delay it all again.

I am really sorry for this state of things, but such are the vagaries of small indie development. Still, thanks again for the passion and support ❤️‍🔥

Frankly, I love Fantasy World and I think it is criminally underappreciated, especially in comparison to Dungeon World. I try to promote it to people whenever I can. I personally enjoy it immensely.

Both the hard copy and the nicely formatted PDF are in my ready rack of accessible games that I keep near the top of the pile. When people talk to me about fantasy games that they can have and enjoy for little cost but with great payoff, this is one of the first ones I hand them.

That’s at least a good start on giving us a basic idea of how long it’s going to be until we can start promoting the game to other people again with PDFs and the like. That’s basically my concern.

Like I said, it’s a shame that this game doesn’t get more press than it does. Providing every opportunity for good designers and good writers to reap the fruits of their labor is what I’m really interested in. One can’t ask more than what you’re doing from a small indie developer.

I know how much “fun” relaying things for different print houses is, so I understand the complexity.

So it goes. Just keep us in the loop.

Hello, Alexander and Alessandro.

Glad to know this situation! I've been searching for this pdf like crazy these last days 😅

I would like to know if you could be able to share this PDF somehow. Even if though we have the full text on the SRD, the layout/illustrations facilitates the reading a lot!

Hi Pessouza, well met! 😃

Unfortunately, as mentioned before, there is nothing /legal/ that can be done until Luca and I properly rebuild the PDF.

Be sure to keep checking FW itch page, or my Patreon, for the latest news and be ready when (eventually 😅 ) the new PDF drops.

Awww, so sad to hear this 😭

Anyway, I wish you guys the best! I Gave the SRD a chance and it was truly something unique that you guys managed to craft. It deserved WAAY more attention.

Only complaint, though, is that when I search for "Fantasy World RPG" in google, it shows me results for EVERYTHIIIING fantasy-related 😂

Hope to hear more about you guys soon. Keep up the good work and best o luck with your master thesis! I'm currently doing mine, in games aswell 😅

Thank you! 🥰

Where are you doing your Master?

(+1)

It's in a brazilian federal university, from where I live! Are you doing yours in Italy? By the way, what are you researching, especifically? I'd love to know more 😅

Would you wanna exchange contacts, like Discords, to talk about it?

I've replied HERE :)
