I really appreciate all the small details you've incorporated into you game, it makes it feel much more human!! The censored penguin's texts at the beginning, the item descriptions, even the controls are personalized!
Unfortunately, I didn't exactly understand the story. By that, I mean I don't understand the cutscene at the start of the game. Is it just the lore behind the penguin we play as? If so, why are there creatures coming from a portal? Is it to steal from the penguin since he won lots of money? Please do tell me, I'm really curious!
Little suggestions:
- add a background to the screen where we play as the penguin
- more enemies or levels
- make the enemies capable of changing sides (not just on the floor, but also on the walls and ceiling) so that they can follow the player
- put the portal in the center. That way, the player has to use more of the mechanics of the game (you'd have to flip over and over again, rather than stand still)
- for next jams: considering how much time we had, maybe you should have focused more on the gameplay (more enemies, progression, etc.) and instead of animating a whole cutscene, you can have a slideshow (it'd also be easier to tell the story)
Then again, those are just suggestions. No need to implement them if you feel like it isn't necessary. After all, it's your game. I wouldn't want to take away the "Anarkion" feel of this game! :D
Also, I realized that if you just pick up one item and go destroy the portal, it doesn't spawn in any enemies and you can still beat the game. :P
