Q : Where’s the beef ? A : it’s all in this game right here.

Okay stupid intro joke aside (i’m sorry it was too tempting :p) the game is awesome !

I really like how you guys took the classic turn based dungeon crawler formula and put a unique spin on it by having it set in some biopunk nightmare setting but with still some nice humor (which i’m not surprised considering your previous mech jam entry XD)

The very grunge-ey textures really give this a unique look, the 3D hub with the little 2D character sprites are fantastic, the photo like item sprites add a nice touch of surreal to the whole thing, it’s solid overall.

The music is so awesome as well, it completes the insane look perfectly and i especially like the hubworld music ! One detail in particular struck me so i have to ask, did you guys sample the sound from the old Alien trailer for one of that instruments ? cause it sounds incredibly similar and if so it’s a genius move cause i did not expect that :o

Gameplay wise i also really enjoy the grid based inventory system in which you equip your different bio modules to determine your stats buffs and abilities. I was struggling a bit at first until i understood you could drag and drop unwanted items on the consume icon to regain some health and bile in the process, super clever design ! I don’t know how you balanced things out but i ended up using the Fucked up Claw a lot cause it seemed like the most reliable attack option that i could have.

Points again for the humor of the game where i’ll just comment by summing up my playthrough :

Temu Shodan told me to get in the Bio-Bot, shopped for some meat before my leave, crawled down in the dungeon for a bit to fight some flippin’ hands and cyclops, aqcuired the Winrar license, then ate it, then got killed by a bunch of burgers…

10/10

Great job to all of you :)

Thanks so much for the lovely review, your summary at the end made us crack up. I also love the hubworld music, I'll let Sam answer that one since I have no idea what kind of magic goes into making music like that haha.  Programming all the systems was tough and if it feels balanced I'm happy, but I'll tell you it was down to the wire trying to get everything to work nicely with everything else haha

Thanks for playing!

Haha well that’s just how i go when i review jam games so i’m happy if that made you guys laugh XD but i really had to mention it cause i really lost it when i encountered the Winrar license item in game, it just took me right back to all those years of just dismissing the popup about it (like every body did) any time i encountered an archive XD

And i have no doubt you had your hands full to manage all the rpg systems at play here :)

Hey, I made the hub world song! I'm so glad you enjoyed it. I just watched (and listened) to the Alien trailer and found that sound you mentioned. The instrument I used in that spot on the track is a Korg MS-20 Mini synthesizer, going through a plate reverb plugin. The synth is a remake of a 1983 synthesizer, so it's possible it's similar to whatever the trailer's composer was using in their track. Thanks again for the kind words!

No worries ^^ and it was truely my favorite, so i’m not crazy though ? If you checked you see what i mean, it does sound a lot like it no ? Even if it wasn’t intended i feel considering the art direction of the game it is such a cool detail :D And dang if the synth you used is a remake of an 80’s one it could totally be the reason why it sound so close :)
