It took me a while to learn how to play the game (and I only did after reading the comments here), so I think a tutorial is reeeally needed, cause once you understand how to make things move, the game is actually rather fun. I also think there should be a way to preview the notes somehow, because the low point of the game is that you always need to listen to the song first, miss everything, and only then be able to program your play. But I really think you have a great idea here!
