You are entirely correct about the issues and the dearth of meaningful options. I was under a lot of pressure to solo-code the entire game because my crew sadly quit during the jam. To submit a playable build on time, I had to reduce both the scope and the branching logic.
I am absolutely aiming to fix these flaws (particularly the text overflow and the freezing issue) and expand out the choices in an update once the jam is totally done.
