I understand the premise but I wasn't fully able to progress onto the next level. I'm not sure exactly that I've missed during my run.

In the first level, there is a gray object near the centre of the top platform, if you stand on/next to it for a few secounds, it will turn white and the player turns green. Once the player turns green, you can get to the box to escape, otherwise if you leave before all lightbulb are lit, it loops the player again. Note level 7-9 are inaccessible, will be fixed once the jam ends.
