I think it's placement. And you have so much space on the right side of the screen that's essentially unused. 
There's a video by Aarimous called How I do Sound Effects in Godot  that you should look into that would address your concerns with the chaos. Basically the sounds are managed so that if there's already so many sounds playing, it won't add more and blowout the audio. 

are you saying that you would make the inventory smaller and place the upgrade and stats panels in the freed up space or would you put it on the left side? where the wave panel is.

I'll definitely take a look at the sound effects video!

I'd say keep things consolidated on the right. I was emptying the inventory as fast as it was filling up anyways, so it definitely doesn't need to be so large.
