Yeap, that was a design flaw I noticed too on doing it all in the center. I actually nerf the respawn rates by 30 seconds per unlock
Original design had workstations to do tasks all round the level + hints to go look for + things could go wrong with more enemies/traps if you get a code wrong but... I had to cut those features =)

Edit: Nerfed early respawns even further to make players explore more for enemies
