This game is one of the worst games I have ever played. Skip this if you don't want spoilers or something.

It's fine if you really enjoy the game in my opinion just as long as you realise how disgusting some parts of this game are. One of the issues are that it seems to have a very large audience of a young age when the topics of this game are incredibly explicit.  The love interest of the game, Pierrot, is literally terrible. Harlequin is his rival and set up to be worse but here's the issue they're genuinely the same character with the only difference being that Pierrot is slightly altered to be more likeable however the issue is that they're still both terrible, you can't say Harlequin is terrible when Pierrot also drugged you without consent making you unconscious so you couldn't leave the circus and tied you up backstage and both him and Harlequin explained in graphic detail how badly they want you. Not to mention they both constantly break into your house without your permission and just kind of flirt way too much. These characters aren't romantic, they are the embodiment of walking red flags. If this was real with some circus performers breaking into some girls home and constantly sexually harassing her this would be a crime story dude, this would be what mothers tell their daughters in order to teach them why not to trust strangers. This is completely glossed over too, this game romanticises subjects like drugging, kidnapping, harassment and practically rape all too much which is not already a TERRIBLE thing to do but with this obviously young audience is dangerous like you don't want to normalize things that does happen to people constantly and gets them killed or just ruins their lives, this story is terrible.

Now on the topic of story, regardless of what everyone else thinks this story so far is garbage. I know there is a small amount of chapters so far so making a judgement on the lore isn't incredibly justified but with everyone currently praising the game for it's A tier writing, it's seriously not. The story is 5 random monsters get enslaved by humans and get abused and oh there was also a pink clown named Columbina but Harlequin just kinda ate her so they could get enough strength to escape against the humans... THATS IT. THATS THE LORE. THIS IS WHAT YOU'RE PRAISING? Don't get me wrong I like games that take their own spin on existing historical things like how this game has a take on clowns in the theatres of Italy around the 16-17th century but this game does NOT do it for me. The story is incredibly boring to me like genuinely I love games with lore and secrets and I am willing to make a new judgement once more story comes out but this story at it's current level is NOT worth praising do not lie right now. I could pull shit like this out of my ass in an hour and I'd reckon it would be better than this it is not crazy.  I'm pretty confident the abuse they suffered is almost an excuse for how they behave which is NOT HOW THIS WORKS, no amount of trauma can justify actions like this I do not care.

The designs in this game aren't terrible I guess, I do sometimes like them but in my opinion it is pretty hard to ruin a clown design but also the jester-clown-circus theme is the only thing keeping this game away from being (even more)  disgusting. If these were just regular ass dudes then everyone would more or less be thinking about this entire storyline differently. The art is pretty ok though I don't mind the art.

These characters aren't really attractive in any sense, I am not the best qualifier to write about the romantic appeal as I don't really have an interest in any characters in any piece of media but I can still recognize what am I SUPPOSED to find attractive I guess. Besides Harlequin and Pierrot all the other characters have NO depth and even Harlequin and Pierrot have no real personality, everyone drew like a tiny card out of a hat and whatever that card had on it they made their personality. Pierrot is just misunderstood and wants to feel love and ignore the fact he broke into your house and is begging to have sex with you probably and Harlequin is just some asshole creep who also breaks into your house after Pierrot and begs you to have sex with him. The only reason why Harlequin is made to be less likeable is because he hates Pierrot, that's it, unless being green also means something but there is virtually no difference elsewise. These characters are all copy paste with one or two aspects slightly altered which is boring.

I haven't played a ton of dating sims in my life but I have played a handful of visual novels and this one is by far the worst. I looked into it because I saw how I occasionally saw people who were super into this and I am genuinely shocked by how much fans a game like this has. This game requires such minimal effort in general to make it is insane and at the level it is currently at it does NOT deserve this much praise. I am not entirely shitting on the creator but you have to realise what you are writing about and what you are advertising as an attractive character right, like I know it's in the warnings and it pretty obvious it says 18+ but EVERYONE who likes this game is 12. Pierrot is not cute or sweet he literally is stalker who constantly assaults you, same with Harlequin. I can't offer any advice to change or fix the game, the game is already such a landfill of garbage it's hard to rewrite it to make it better or make the characters more interesting and less disgusting. This game is a glorified Hazbin Hotel Helluva Boss dating sim but with clowns and whether you like that or not you have to see the bad writing and odd choice in character traits.

I know some people use this game as a way to escape real life or that I am taking a game far too seriously but out of everyone playing this game I'm not seeing anyone point out the issues and when they do this fandom is so quick to shit on them and cuss them out without giving their opinion a listen. I missed a few points I could've made probably but I don't want to play this game more than once.

This doesn't mean you have to think it sucks i just think it sucks like a lot, you can think whatever you want just realise what the content inside the game is about and know that it's oftentimes extremely uncomfortable.

I'm going to be very honest: You have a complete lack of awareness of what 'yandere' is. The fact you took time out of your day to write a hateful essay of all things on a free piece of media that is clearly marked as 18+ with all proper tags and warning on it speaks volumes of the kind of person you are. The fact you also speak poorly of those who enjoy this fictional work again, speaks volumes of you as a person and nothing flattering at that.

You talk a big talk of how 'how dare this 18+ game have 18+ themes', and also disparage the game repeatedly based purely on the fact you are entirely ignorant of not just the themes within, (yandere), but also openly state you've not played a lot of VNs, and also judge this FREE game thinking its 'minimal effort' when looking at all the unique animations, scenes, backgrounds, unique poses, and art, its actually already surpassing some licensed and published titles by mainline companies.

This game is not for you, and while that is a fine and valid thing, YOU are the person who decided to make an essay taking pot shots at it's creator, fans, and the entire VN community repeatedly all for what? Some kind of moral high ground? You are literally a living embodiment of having no life and needing a hobby that isn't being a genuinely toxic and depressing person.

Before you shit on media you don't like, at the very fucking bare minimum, know the media's audience and it's themes- Look up yandere media- you'll be surprised how popular it is especially in mainstream media.
Play more visual novels and learn typical visual novel tropes and story beats. Just like hero tales in fiction, VNs tend to follow a general story line flow.

As someone who has played over 50+ VNs, over 20 of those being mainstream big house published titles, this game is actually very well polished for being not just indie but a single person show! It's an impressive feat! On top of that, this game utilizes a lot of advanced storytelling techniques in VNs that are not often commonly seen in Ren'py engine works.  It follows a typical romantic storyflow and has many of the common and uncommon otome tropes, as well as the typical yandere story beats. It is a fun/relatively new take on many 'classics'.

Learn for one thing, basic human fucking decency about what a review is and is not, and secondly, learn the fucking media you're consuming before you begin to criticize.

So here is my rebuttal essay, and enjoy knowing you got a rise, but more, in knowing you are in fact, worse than the very characters you find repulsive in how you speak and obviously treat others.

Like damn, at least Harlequin doesn't hide that he's a monster, you try to pretend you're actually a decent person. That's got to be rough.

(+18)

You voiced all my thoughts after reading their review, thank you. People seriously need to be more informed before writing a review like this...

(+4)(-10)

I don't mean to shit on the community and I am sorry if I come off that way. This reply will be pretty sloppy so sorry about that.

I think I mentioned the fact it is stated as 18+ but my concern was that I was worried people of younger ages wouldn't care for the tags as content warnings properly and just kind of see it as a norm. I do enjoy the art and I was certainly a bit harsh on the overall story of the game and I do recognize the fact that this is a one person operation and that indie games are already hard to make and during the review I should've made a couple points on the fact for the game they are running it's not the worst so that is on me and is probably very good in the community of VN and that it's just my small selection of VN games I've played were more to my taste so obviously this was going to be something I didn't like as much.

I am really sorry though if I did come off as someone trying to just shit on the game just because I can, I did say though that I was not trying to shit on the community I said that at the very end as well my intention was to never laugh at the people who like the game.

I do know what a yandere game is, I have played quite a few so it isn't some crazy subject and I do know that's what like all these characters are I just wanted them to be more fleshed out personality wise, I know some had minimal screentime so nothing can take place and the fact this game has like two chapters so nothing can take place like within a logical time sense. I'm just not use to more explicit yandere games and I see how my inexperience in that makes me come off as seriously arrogant

I do see where some of my points can be easily rebutted, they weren't properly structured and I see where I missed some things so I thank you for that. I did not intend to write this as like a "no one should play this, I am way better, I have 0 experience in VN and hate any creator which tries to make something explicit!" but I do see how I came off like that.

Sorry that I offended you and made a poorly made argument, as I've said I didn't mean to bully anyone and I just wanted to say that idk this game wasn't for me but then again I did say all of that very harshly. But still thanks for the reply idk how to say this very well but it did help me understand a bit of the topics of the game better but still idk I'm really sorry my comment sounded like an attack on the community and creator, I was too harsh but I never meant to attack anyone. I still stand by a few of my points but as I said earlier I see where I kind of went wrong so thanks for that.

I commend you for taking the time to reflect on your post and my response.

As I said, it's fine for something to not be for you, but you have to engage with reviews in good faith along with the community that the media is within.

I do encourage you to continue to try new VNs and branch out of your norm, but always keep in mind, a lot of games here on itch.io in particular, are labors of love, and like A03 are shared with others for no reason other than the love of creating. That means you need to understand what is and is not going to be a respectable and decent review and critique.

Part of the VN community, especially the indie game community, is based on uplifting others and sharing what we enjoy. You don't need to leave all glowing reviews, but you do need to approach them with the understanding of who and why they are made, and the audience.

That all being said, I wish you well and that you find games that better suit your tastes and that offer the experiences you're looking for. This may not be it, but, likely you will find something that is.

Literally gave voice to my thoughts. What was that person even thinking honestly

As a fully grown adult, I like the concept of this game.

Mind you, the game has a clear 18+ rating and warnings, so people know what they're downloading. Let's be real: kids today ignore age ratings and will download games anyway, unless they live in a country like mine that strictly blocks access for those under 16.

Also, the developers made this for a specific, mature audience, and it's not their fault if kids find a way to play it.

I understand you want to act as the moral compass here, but let's be realistic.

(+9)

you cant say a game is inherently bad just because its not your cup of tea. you downloaded a yandere game, you got a yandere game. this is the point (and appeal for some) of the entire thing

(+3)

You fxcking read ALL the tags, play the game and expected... Whay, exactly?? LIT NOWHERE here says "Oh yea is a super cute game where the main characters are totally sane and respectable people enjoy ^^"; and you have the balls to write such a looooong thing just to tell us that you did't like it when instead you could have just... Don't open the game again and ignore its existence?? Maybe??

For the young people playing it... The creator have done their part with the warnings. If any -18 baby wants to play it after all, well... They shouldn't be in the internet in the first place, its not the worst game they're gonna find andddd their parents should be the ones cheking what are they seeing here.

As a writer, is horrible to find that some people feels so entitled to just comment all of that hateful shit instead of just close the fucking page and look for a game that actually haves what you want.

Next time you wanna trow shit on someone else work? Shut the fuck up.

(+1)

Most people already covered what I would've said in response to this, but I'll add something that hasn't been said. You say this: "I am not entirely shitting on the creator but you have to realise what you are writing about and what you are advertising as an attractive character right, like I know it's in the warnings and it pretty obvious it says 18+ but EVERYONE who likes this game is 12."
But there's literally a content warning on the game page. Generalizing everyone who likes the game to be twelve year olds is insulting and targeted no matter how you word it. I'm twenty-two, I enjoy this game. And there's more depth to it than you seem to realize. No one is pointing out the issues, because they read the content warnings and decided if it was or wasn't for them. You say people are so quick to shit on others when their opinion is given, but you gave your opinion first and did so by calling the people who like this game twelve year olds.
Not saying other people won't shit on others because they gave an honest opinion. But you gave a *targeted* opinion, and your wording makes it sound like you're trying to make people feel bad for enjoying something you don't.
I'm not saying you have to like the game, it's important to be aware of what types of media you do and don't enjoy. It's not for everyone, nothing is. But I am trying to give you another perspective in hopes you be more mindful when making comments in the future. Writing reviews is great, but targeted opinions that seem to be trying to shame others isn't.

bro you registered like 2 days ago just to come here and write an entire essay just because you don't like a game. You are very "tuff" bro.

I love how NO ONE agrees lolll!! XD
