Is a remake allowed?

Hey there, so I have a game I made like four years ago in Godot for a month-long jam. And as this is an exceptionally serious jam I wanted to look towards the professionals. And clearly the truly serious developers do not actually create new IPs, they just rehash the same old IP over and over again.

So to follow the professionals, I would like to remake the game I have made previously. Given the stipulations on the main jam page I believe this would be allowed, but I wanted to check in to ensure it was OK.

Worthwhile details about my plan:

  • I want to remake the game in a completely different engine
  • I will be making/sourcing new assets for the game so it doesn’t look identical to the previous
  • I will attempt to iterate on the gameplay from the original version if time allows
  • I will otherwise be adhering to all rules and regulations of this jam

Given my plan, would this be allowed? Or should I intend to pivot? Obviously if there is absolutely no way to work my older game to fit the theme I’ll definitely scrap it. But I figured it could be an interesting lens of “serious” to take and would also give me an excuse to see how far I’ve come in all these years (holy heck I’ve been at this a long time).

Hi! I will say yes that's fine since this is more of a chill jam, but definitely make sure the theme is incorporated!
