This is so exciting! I love this idea! The graphics and gameplay are so fun, and the granny voice is hilarious. I’d definitely play a longer version, but I think I’m misunderstanding how the mechanics work.

On the first transaction in a round, every number in each category is added up to make the total on the register. But on subsequent rounds, the register total doesn’t always match the board total.

It seems like some categories are being counted as others after the first transaction…like they’re indented, and the game thinks they are a subset of another category? I had:

Produce 5

(indent) Meat 5

(indent) Dairy 4

Register total: 9

When I only used a $5 coupon for meat and a $5 coupon for dairy, the produce 5 disappeared like it wasn’t counted. I didn’t combine any categories.

I started the game over and tried again with a different round. On the second transaction:

(indent) Meat 6

Dry Goods 3

(indent) Dairy 8

Register total: 3

Oh wow thank you so much for taking the time to play it! Hmm, yeah I will have to check into this!? I didn't notice it, but its very possible I mixed something up in my last minute rush-attempts. haha.
Looking at the screenshots, in your first one, is it due to the Rebate Slip ( 20% off coupon) being run first?
As for the produce getting knocked off on screen2, you do have "produce" coupon which probably Zeroed it out. THe total goes to 3 most likely because of `Stock Clearance` which reduces the Total and not categories.

That said, its highly likely I messed something up though / put the wrong category for something. haha. It was intended to be a math game, and i'm not super great at that. lol.

After the jam concludes I will definitely make some fixes though! I probably just need to simplify things. Right now you have coupons that effects totals, categories (which also affect totals), and budgets. Might just need to make everything effect categories instead to limit confusion. haha

Sorry, I should have been clearer - all of those coupons were left over from the first transaction. When I looked at the register after the first transaction, I thought the numbers looked weird, so I took a screenshot without touching anything.

Oh I gotcha! No worries! haha. Yeah, so you can work down totals without zeroing out categories. :) Some coupons only effect categories and some effect totals (like Rebate Slip gives you 20% off the total but doesn't touch any categories). I double checked the coupons and they all seem to do what they should be, however I think that the mechanics are just honestly a bit over complicated and I need to simplify them. For example using a $5 off meat coupon with a meat category of 3 still gives you $5 off the total because the category wasn't 0, but if the meat category is 0 it doesn't give you anything. So for categories I probably need to make them more strict on "You can only reduce up to the amount the category is set to". haha

Sorry for the confusion! haha. Part of game jam playtesting. After the voting period I will definitely work to update things so its more straight forward. :)
