(MAYHAPS SOME SPOILERS AHEAD!!!)
Chevie strikes again with another peak game!!!
This was a real treat to play. I don’t usually comment on games, but I liked this game so much that I’m coming out of my shell.
First off, the artsy side. As expected, this game looks and sounds really good, and the unsettling aspects hit pretty hard. I really loved the parallax backgrounds changing to signify the time of day! It made having most of the game take place on one map feel a lot less monotonous and more immersive (which makes sense for a cozy horror game that involves getting to know people!).
Second, the writing. The characters were really endearing, and I genuinely felt bad when their physical and mental states worsened as the days went on. There was so much dread building up to the twist, and it really did pay off. Like, you sort of know what might happen, but hope it doesn’t (and then it does!).
And finally, the gameplay! I’m just going to gush over this because the entire tea making portion was really cool. This is all in RPGMaker, and I can’t imagine how hard it was to get working (and it paid off pretty well!). I really liked the little quality of life bits in the tea making segment (like the text reminding you what each thing is! 10/10 would’ve mixed up the drawers without it.). My only complaint is that the tea making is a bit slow, but that’s probably just me liking things done fast XD. I’d love to see a devlog on how you actually got this system working. I’ve got an inkling as to how, but I’m just curious lol.
All in all, this game was peak. 10/10. :)
(The cat bumps this up to 11/10.)
