Chevie strikes again with another peak game!!!
This was a real treat to play. I don’t usually comment on games, but I liked this game so much that I’m coming out of my shell.
First off, the artsy side. As expected, this game looks and sounds really good, and the unsettling aspects hit pretty hard. I really loved the parallax backgrounds changing to signify the time of day! It made having most of the game take place on one map feel a lot less monotonous and more immersive (which makes sense for a cozy horror game that involves getting to know people!).
Second, the writing. The characters were really endearing, and I genuinely felt bad when their physical and mental states worsened as the days went on. There was so much dread building up to the twist, and it really did pay off. Like, you sort of know what might happen, but hope it doesn’t (and then it does!).
And finally, the gameplay! I’m just going to gush over this because the entire tea making portion was really cool. This is all in RPGMaker, and I can’t imagine how hard it was to get working (and it paid off pretty well!). I really liked the little quality of life bits in the tea making segment (like the text reminding you what each thing is! 10/10 would’ve mixed up the drawers without it.). My only complaint is that the tea making is a bit slow, but that’s probably just me liking things done fast XD. I’d love to see a devlog on how you actually got this system working. I’ve got an inkling as to how, but I’m just curious lol.
All in all, this game was peak. 10/10. :)
(The cat bumps this up to 11/10.)
Hello, thank you for your interest in TCPC, I’m happy that you want to stream it!!! :)
There are content warnings at the start of Chapter 1 and Chapter 4, but I can give a small list of trigger warnings (it’s not comprehensive, though):
-Death -Blood -Gore (There’s a very gore-heavy CG near the end of Chapter 1) -Lots of emotional abuse and manipulation -Grief -Mental health struggles -Mature themes (especially in Chapter 4, nothing is shown on screen, but it’s heavily implied)
I hope you have fun with TCPC!!! (Well, as much fun as you can have with a story like this XD)
Thank you for playing!(And for the video!)
As for your last point, eventually I think I’ll update the game to fix up the entire thing with the w-ndigo. Let’s just say that I didn’t realize the significance of it until you and Brittle brought it to my attention. I’ll keep your points in mind for future projects as well!
Again, thank you for playing!
Thank you for playing!!! I always look forward to your playthroughs!
Spoiler: The surgical process performed on Clarence is a lobotomy. It was something that people would force others into if they weren’t considered to be “normal.” However, the process would usually leave the patient extremely docile and detached from reality, assuming they even survived it.
About the religion thing, I don’t think that people will get mad unless they happen to be insanely hypocritical! The religious critique is mostly against hypocrites that use religion as a means to propagate terrible things.
