As you could probably guess from my pfp I do like Umamusume. I really love the idea for this game. I only love pages 11-14. Pages 1-10 are too focused on zombies and not enough on horsies. The prez is an amazing adversary. She is as stunning as she is horrifying. Fight her with a metal pipe or a katana does not feel very Umamusume. This is a zombie game in a horse mask and I wanted a horse game with rotting flesh. It is an amazing game. I think the system fits well with the idea.

But Umamusume are more than runners. They are idols. And the six stats (seven including loot) two of them can be related to running (one more so than the other) and one to being an idol. There are no mechanics to encourage trying to be an idol. There could be people who are angry or scared and the only way to calm them down is to sing. Or breathless could be compelled to repeat dance moves so you can stop them dead in their tracks by dancing, but you are vulnerable while dancing. If you try to distract the prez with dancing there is a one in four chance she will charge you. Or always roll a D12 while singing, but regardless of the result attract a breathless. Something to make it more horse girl. Even just replacing the word sanity with dreams. It is very clear this is breathless first and Umamusume second. 8/10. It has great ideas which is why it is so disappointing they were not taken farther.

You are completely correct: this is a zombie game with a thin coat painting. As much as I enjoyed working on it, this is my main grievance with the final product.

While the mechanics don't explicitly encourage you to act on the Uma's idol side, you can definitely have an Uma sing to cheer up a comrade, deny reality and dance to her death as she snaps, or make a last stand on stage to attract all zombies and help her friends escape. Depending on the tone of the game you end up running, it can be grotesquely comical or played straight for horror. There are no rules for it. But I could've informed it in my lore blurbs.

I'm relieved to hear that Prez made a good impression. While fighting her with classic survival horror weaponry isn't super on brand, don't forget about all the improvised weapons you can loot on the school grounds!

Thank you so much for your feedback!
