Game crashes after first level

Great looking game. First level plays perfectly. When I complete it the game crashes and I can't go any further. If anyone has any solution it would be greatly appreciated, I'd love to play the rest of this game. I'm using Windows. I'm not tech savvy so I tried running the game as an administrator. No dice.

Hello. I'm sorry you had trouble with the game. A few questions:
- Are you playing on Itch or on Steam?
- Are you on Windows or Linux?

Downloaded the Windows version off of Itch.

I'm not being able to reproduce it. The save data is stored in %localappdata%\Pichon so it should work even if your account doesn't have administrator privileges.
One thing you can try is running the game with Steam open. There was a bug in an old version where the itch version was expecting the steam api to be available but if you are using version 19 that should be fixed.

If you are using the itchio sandbox try disabling it, though it shouldn't be an issue either.

If nothing works send an email to info@crimsonghostgames.com linking to this post and I'll send you a steam key to see if that works better.

I'm having the same issue. I, too, am running the Windows version from Itch.io.

I already had Steam open when I attempted to run it. I also don't use the itch.io sandbox.
If needed, I can try to locate any crash reports and send them your way if that would help.

Crash reports should be at %userprofile%\AppData\Local\pichon\User Data\Crashpad
I'm working on a port to a different engine though it'll take at least a month to be ready so I'd like to fix this in the meanwhile but I'm having trouble reproducing the error.

When exactly does the crash happen? right when you go through the door in the first level? Do you get to see the level clear screen? Does it crash when you click on the arrow to start level 2?

The crash was happening the moment I'd make contact with the door to complete the first level. It wouldn't even show the level clear screen. I opened the game back up earlier today while steam was closed and had no issues. I then opened steam to see if that would cause issues again, and sure enough the game crashed in the same manner once steam was opened.

I'd also like to note that when exiting to the title screen after completing a level the sky texture disappears for some reason. Not a big deal, but thought you may like to know nevertheless.

How should I send the crash reports to you? And do you want just the DMP files in the reports folder?

Thanks a lot for taking the time to test it. You can zip the whole reports folder and sent it to info@crimsonghostgames.com

I know what's wrong. You don't own it on steam and the game is trying to set stats when you have steam open. That's why I don't get the same error. I'll upload a new version with all the steam integrations removed.

I've removed the steam integration from the itch version. If you can please update to the latest version (#22) and retest.

I've tested the new version both with Steam open and with Steam closed. It initially crashed when I first ran it, but I suspect that was a result of having files in %localappdata%\Pichon leftover from the previous version. Unfortunately, I sent the zipped reports folder before testing the new version, so if a new DMP file was generated it's not in the files I sent. If you would like I can email you a more up-to-date zip of the reports folder (or just any new DMP files that were generated.)

The only new issue is that most of the hud elements are now invisible.

Man that's really weird. I'm sending you a steam key as gratitude for all your help. Hopefully it'll work better.

The new version using a different engine will be up in about a month. I want to add a level editor and some other stuff but compared to this version it's almost at 100% feature parity.

Thank you so much. I really appreciate it. I've been busy the past couple of days, but I'll give the steam version a try when I get the chance.

I'm very happy to have been able to give feedback on the game. :)
