Yeah, you are right about half life, the character controller is based on the quake git repo, so it has all that old school goldsrc/ quake engine feel minus the diagonal speed bug but it has the unclamped bunny hopping feel to it.

The ladders, yeah, I if you read the other comments they had a good idea that I should have lowered horizontal movement more on them and I agree. In reality you are just falling up the ladders, I didnt even think it would work as well as it did. I guess the hard part with retro style ladders is going down and I didnt do anything for enabling that. I think that's when you have to start messing around with exit points and knowing when  you are at the top and bottom ect vs Ladder trigger volume go up haha

Yeah bonking them was always good fun while trying to wrangle them to be somewhat useful lol
I didnt really like shooting the version of them at the end after spending so much time try to get them to work, I kinda liked them and some of the "chunking" effects were kinda gross when they just sorta slid into piles, the exploding into bits is better and less gross.

I wasn't aware how the retro style ladders worked, thanks for explaining. Yeah ladders are hard, I didn't mean it in a bad way I just got flashbacks of when I was a kid trying to climb them lol
