The thing is, David starts sliding when he lands at a higher-than-average speed. At this point, when he's sliding, you need to hold down the down key to make him slide longer. I apologize for the rather awkward tutorial in this level.
Oh dang, yeah I needed to brake so I wouldn't fly into the other saws, so be that's what caused him to not slide there. I'll keep trying.
