Oh this was so, so good. Had me holding up my phone to my PC screen with Translate's photo mode on so I could vaguely understand that French and I really loved how much I could just see the plot rushing towards me and having this absolute dread about it. I'm always on the lookout for really visceral and uncomfortable M/M works that balance genuinely romantic writing with just. Absolute nightmare situations, and this ticked every box for me. The prose was utterly gorgeous, the Gothic feel of it really resonated with the tone and Themes -- and God, it handled the themes so well! It felt so crunchy and visceral, like this scabbed-over wound getting ripped open again.
