The red-on-black gave me Virtual Boy energy more than PS1, with the squinting to match (lol), but I really liked the random fighter table and I love a good mountain cult. Feels really runnable and I think the fights would be a lot of fun at the table, but some more direct narrative beats around the Ritual would make it a little easier to run. Plenty of places to check in and alternate ways to skedaddle to the end, though. Gotta respect the commitment to square pages but I bet with half-sheets you'd have more room to put meat on those hitboxes. Nice stuff!
A brutal and rough around the edges fighting tournament framework wrapped up inside a cool, retro Playstation instruction manual aesthetic. You've taken a pretty open prompt, and dialled it in in a way that allows a referee to lead the players in a solid direction.
Overall I think there's a lot crammed into only 6 pages with some really useful toolsets, but the story itself perhaps needs a bit more expansion. Would love to see an extended version of this with some more of the cult's motivations, a clearer structure on how the tournament affects the ceremony, and what FIST could do to stop the ritual - Iron Fist Fighters: Ultra Battle TURBO REMIX?
Thank you for your comments!
Also yeah I will admit some of the aspects of the generation tables are rough around the edges and I prolly should have shortened it down to 4 rounds for a total of 5 encounters.
And as for a potential extended version... Maybe. Only time will tell if i'll return to blood dragon mountain.
That's a hard prompt to fit into six pages and I think you'd done it very well, certainly better than I could have. The front cover is genius and the artstyle really works. While I think rolling up tournament fighters would be a lot of prep, if done well it could make for a really memorable mission.
I really enjoy the format as an old-school game, and the opponents that can be fought.
some really cool ideas in here - especially neat final boss concept. Love fighting evil armor (woof, 30hp 2 armor seems ROUGH!) Worry a bit about the maintaining momentum for 6 rounds of tournament combat before confronting the cult, but really like the tables to shuffle up combatant fighting styles and aesthetics.
Might pare down the tournament stage for my table, or leave the door open for earlier investigation of the cult itself. Cool loop!
