I love this take on blackjack! The art is super charming and i was excited to find out what all of the chips would do. Some of them feel a bit redundant, like the one that changes odds into a random odd feels functionally the same as just randomizing it otherwise.

I think it may have been more interesting to play as the blackjack player instead of the dealer so we could decide if we wanted to hit or stand and play blackjack with the addition of the cheating chips, but that may have not been achievable in the time span. Just felt like I had a bit less autonomy because you just have to wait for the other person to stop.

Overall I had a lot of fun and now I want a full fleshed out Blackjack Balatro game. Well done!

We considered this, but decided on playing as the dealer because we were trying to stick to a rule - "Your opponent can't know you're cheating."

If you were the player, since the dealer always sees your cards before you do, we wouldn't have been able to do this mechanic unless you were changing the card before the dealer even drew it - and that just seemed less clean.

Without that rule and any time constraints this would have either become something like that, or a multiplayer game where everyone is cheating is ridiculous ways.

Oh, and the reason we were conforming to this rule is because otherwise it wouldn't really be theft.
