Nice catch on the theme!
The game loop is clear, the game mechanics are working nicely and I really like that fires are shown as little symbols so the player knows where to go!
The art style is simple, yet fitting, although the UI could get some more polish in my opinion. The effects work fine, but I think they don't quite fit to the overall art style.
The music is ok'ish, but for me it gets really annoying within a very short amount of time :D (Just something personal!)
Regarding the time you spent developing this game: Awesome.
Great entry overall!
