Okay, feedback. I liked the game, but if you were eager on improving upon the horror then it could’ve used more varied paranormal occurrences and animations that reflect that. And if not that, then it could’ve used fewer so as to not become stale quickly to the player during exploration.

Key thing to consider is that when you’re doing a horror title that happens to be heavy on narrative such as adventure games commonly do, you are usually better off keeping things minimal and more atmosphere driven.

Just kind of letting the story and general visual design do the heavy lifting for you. But overall, coupled with that ending this had enough of a distinct feel in the execution to offer, that I didn’t mind it much and the average person looking for a quick little adventure shouldn’t either.

Edit: Oh, and I should probably add that the manner in which the conclusion plays out retained some of the (for a lack of a better word) stale/bland feeling in terms of how it’s presented. Say, the character could’ve moved his hand when picking up the phone to make the call and such and so it circles back to the variety aspect I touched upon near the start. Though, it’s easier to overlook with low productions and indie games when compared in juxtaposition to every other aspect at play that brings it whole. Especially when the pros are the norm rather than the exception. It is how I typically evaluate and attempt to critique them with fairness in my head.

Thanks for playing and thanks for the critiques. This was our first attempt in the genre and was produced for a game jam with some minor bug improvements the week after it ended. Its been a while, but I think the jam was ~2 weeks and so this has maybe 3 weeks total put into it.
We were definitely trying to lean into the atmosphere and narrative to do most of the lifting, but you bring up some great points. I really like that phone idea to circle back and bring an extra element to it. I want to return to the genre at some point, but probably not until we explore 3D/first person - we're using Game Maker now which is best suited for 2D games. I'll definitely refer back when we are at that point.

Thanks for playing and leaving your thoughts, every bit helps us improve!

Yes, absolutely. Also I completely understand where you’re coming from which is why I worded things in the way that I did and not in a more demanding tone. We all have to start someplace and it isn’t anything to be discouraged by!

And I know I am a bit late too at it. Site being oversaturated with horror games and all. But I was still glad to have found it.
