Looking for recommendations
Out of all the detective / mystery games I’ve played, my favorite type is armchair detective games, especially ones with the three-factor verification structure (when time + location + character are correct, the event locks in).
If anyone knows more games like this, I would love recommendations.
I suspect the developer and I probably enjoy the same kinds of games, because I loved both of your projects.
Here are some of my thoughts on other games I’ve played:
My absolute favorites:
-
CaseCracker (1 & 2)
-
Type Help
-
The Red Pearls of Borneo
-
What Happened to the Crew
-
The Roottrees Are Dead
Also liked (but slightly less):
-
The Case of the Golden Idol series
(ranked a bit lower only because I personally prefer mostly text-based games) -
DAEMON MASQUERADE
(very interesting concept, but the game felt a bit too short)
Games that didn’t work well for me personally:
-
What Remains of Edith Finch – many people recommend it, but it felt more like an interactive movie than a deduction game. Also surprisingly it made me a bit motion-sick in 3D.
-
Unheard and Her Story – they’re highly praised, but because I have ADHD, I struggle with audio/video investigation games. I tend to lose focus and have to constantly rewind or replay sections, which makes the experience pretty frustrating.
-
Orwell: Keeping an Eye On You – interesting concept, but it didn’t really feel like a deduction game to me.
-
Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney Trilogy – these games feel closer to visual novels than investigation games for my taste.
