I've heard it works if you play it through EasyRPG, but I can't test it myself, since I don't own a Mac. If you do decide to try with EasyRPG, let me know how it goes!
I can't tell if it's any different on Mac, but on windows I use it like so: move it to the game folder, and it should show up under 'games' once you open EasyRPG.
