Woah, this one is GREAT!
This really feels polished, and I know making a card game in 7 days is not an easy task! Really enjoyed it throughout, the gameplay is strategic and everchanging, it really tests your skills to both manage enemy population and your current quest. The graphics and audio are really polished, I particularly like the little detail of the cards not landing in perfectly straight position but being slightly tilted (even on opponent's moves), really gives the feel of a casual card game!
Now, onto some critiques I have for the game:
- It was a bit unclear for me how to play from the start due to a lack of a tutorial. Tho I'm really into card games, so I could figure it out pretty easily, but I worry it may not be the same for other people (the color being the attribute, needing to match an attribute of the land below to place another land, needing to draw the cards from the right side, population needing to match the attribute of the land in their column else being sent to the discard, these are all not explained). I think it may use some glowing indicators/visual feedback for where you can place a card, or what to click to draw the next card.
- I think at current state, the starting quest choice may be redundant. You can't see the quests anyways, so either give the player one quest, or let them see a randomized pool of quests to choose from.
- If you have no quest that requires you population, I found population cards to be useless (I started with "have 5 mountains on top"). It would be nice for you to also have the win condition of having X population (so the quests would make for alternate wincons, so you can always have a backup plan depending on what's your setup) or having the population cards have different effects (tho this will take a lot longer to code).
- I liked to be able to choose what cards to draw, but found the fact to be able to only draw 1 per turn a bit slow, and mostly found myself drawing land cards, even while doing creature quests, as they are the only ones able to really hinder the opponent (if you have enough creatures in your hand, you can keep them there and continue drawing lands to setup your advance and stop the opponent, and when you have the correct setup you throw all your creatures down and win). I mostly never drew purple cards, asI always got the reservation card, which I found less powerful than drawing a lot of lands and eliminating every creature on the opponent's side by mismatching their color.
- Small nitpick: I would like a sound for when your turn starts.
But overall, a great game for a 1 week gamejam! Simple yet strategic, just needs a few improvements here and there and it could genuinely be a super fun roguellike card game! Keep up the great work! :D
