The x2 and x3 are multipliers, but only apply to the next cards you place. So a card that gives "+2 Red and x2 Red" when placed, won't give you 4 Reds, any other red card that you place after that though will be multiplied by 2. Maybe we should have included a bit of info on these specific cards during the tutorial :p
