I think in this world the familiars are just spells. The barrier interfered with Kitty and she just turned off. They can turn her back on when they get back to the lab.

I'm not really worried about Kitty being dead or something because you're correct, familiars are just spells. However, Kitty also seems to be a special case of a familiar which is constantly shifting, which is something we never encountered before, so I'm kind of worried Kitty simply won't come back the same. We don't know what the shifting barrier does. Also, they didn't say Kitty disappeared or anything — they just stated everyone is safe except for Kitty, which might as well mean something went wrong.

I wonder if the ancients are still alive, if the time inside the Escarpment is 12x slower than wherever the Royal City is.

For some reason it says it took me 2607 minutes to solve yesterday's puzzle:

Not sure my timing should still qualifiy as a "brilliant puzzler", unless there's also a time differential at play here?

An animated Florian West could barely contain his excitement today as he spoke to our reporter. "We ran the numbers based on Charlie's calculation, and, if we assume those are accurate, it still would've taken Lancival 95 minutes to complete today's Daily Spell." 

When questioned further on what this might mean, Mr West replied: "Isn't it obvious? There must be a second Escarpment, beyond the first! If the time distortions act the same, that would give us the far more reasonable time of three minutes and thirty-two seconds. Though how — and more importantly, why — Lancival journeyed there, I couldn't tell you."

Oh man, I was hoping there weren’t any timer bugs, but I kind of figured some might be lurking. 😢

If you remember, did it say that yesterday as soon as you finished the puzzle, or was it correct before and it changed today? Or did you just now solve yesterday’s?

Two completely optional things you could do:

  1. If you remember, give me a rundown of what actions you took when solving the puzzle: did you have the tab already open, if so did you refresh, or did you open it new? While you were solving, did you switch to another day or open How to Play or About the Game? Did you switch browser tabs in the middle?
  2. If you’re up for it, grab your game stats from local storage and send them to me for inspection. We could chat on discord - my username is the same as it is here.

I only just solved that puzzle today, and I didn't switch tabs or do anything unusual while solving the puzzle, since I was solving a bunch of them in a row. I suspect it has to do with leaving my tab open, because I discovered your game about two days ago, and that approximately lines up with the 2600 minutes.

Here's the relevant entry from the local storage:
"2026-01-28":{"isComplete":true,"startTime":1769739097515,"endTime":1769739059925,"completeTime":156463840}

Not sure why the "completeTime" seems to be unrelated to the difference between start and end times.

Thanks for grabbing that, I appreciate it!

I think that the timer started for the Jan 28th puzzle when you started playing the game (guessing based on these numbers that was Wed Jan 28 2026 01:43:53 GMT-0500.) When you started playing, you probably went to How to Play and then Solve from the Beginning? Something didn’t pause the 28th’s timer correctly so it still had that start time when you eventually solved it. (I don’t know why the startTime then got a new value after the endTime…)

This gives me a lot to go on to repro, thank you! Will try to get this fixed.

I tried and I wasn’t able to reproduce this exact issue, but I did some cleanup to the timer code that I’m hoping would help. Now to keep an eye out if anyone else runs into it!
