I'm using Android 16, and I can access my saves just fine with ZArchiver.
I found a way to prevent the files from getting the deleted by changing the folder name.
Anyway, I know it is not your fault, I just made that comment half-asleep, frustrated that Google is slowly restricting what we can do on our phones.

Will you share this unfathomable knowledge on how to prevent the file form getting deleted?
I don't know if you can do it on your phone's default file explorer, but I used zarchiver with shizuku to rename the game's data folder before uninstalling it, and renaming it back after I installed the update.
