But nothing seemed to happened, and I am not sure if I had to press them in a order or in a pattern. I also tried to active machines, but it was difficult to see if anything happened.

Yeah, the instructions tell you to watch the patterns carefully, and you have to input the pattern in. The pattern for power is just randomly generated, and you have to find out the right one. Also the sounds tell you if you activated it or not. When you activate it the lights on that system will turn on.
