didn't you say that you made characters 3d models that look 2d? i heard shapekeys are easier for this type of stuff than spriting.

the engine I'm working doesn't have advanced interation with 3d models like shapeKeys. I would have to write such a complex system from scratch myself. Moreover, shapekeys are most often used for true visual 3d, not for flat rectangles with pixel textures - otherwise, the character models would look too crude. Therefore, I only see the traditional option, even though it's more difficult.
