Fun fact - Starfall is, to a minor extent, inspired by a passing reference in a star trek novel to someone playing jai alai, with absolutely no description given other than that it was a fast-paced, highly dangerous sport that someone else was afraid of. This was long enough ago that it was not easy for child-me to look up a random reference (We didn't have the internet back then!) so I was left to imagine what kind of insanely dangerous sport someone might get up to and I somehow decided that this must involve throwing knives instead of balls. Just throw a knife to your teammate and hope they catch it! If not, sickbay can reattach their fingers!
.... obviously that is NOT what jai alai actually is.
Along the same lines, as a child I had some strange ideas of what "lawn darts" involved. (I mean, they are dangerous, but they're not QUITE as insane as I imagined based on the knowledge that people had been killed by them)
So all of these thoughts were involved in inventing The Worst Sport.
