For a minimalist version of the dragon game, Heartseeker is remarkable in that it offers races (termed "bloodlines" here), classes, and a Vancian magic system. I do have a couple questions about the bloodlines. How often can Elves cast Magic Detection, and how often can Gnomes cast Illusion? Would an Elf Wizard, for instance, be able to cast Magic Detection in addition to number of times that they could prepare this spell per day as a Wizard? Thanks!

Thanks! You just gain one spell per day. Only wizards gain the benefit of being able to gain more spells. An elf wizard wouldnt need to choose Magic Detection since they can already cast it. Hope that helps.

Thanks for the reply! So an Elf Fighter cannot choose to be able cast Magic Detection once per day? They would have to take the +1 to Aur as their bloodline quality?

An elf fighter could. It's just an elf wizard where the choice would be redundant

So an Elf Warrior (or Thief, or Cleric, or Pathfinder) could choose to be able to cast Magic Detection once per day, or a Gnome Warrior (or Thief, or Cleric, or Pathfinder) could choose to be able to cast Illusion once per day, but an Elf Wizard or Gnome Wizard would gain nothing from choosing the bloodline spells and should always choose the +1 to Aur instead. That makes sense. Thank you again for the helpful replies! Now I can have my players roll up some characters.

Exactly! No problem
