it would be cool for map sizes and/or limited sized map mode of sorts to make it less of a "wait for a door to appear" game and more of a "explore a small, medium, or large map" kind of game, but that's just a suggestion :)
Hi,
Thank you for the valuable inputs ! Here is some clarification and insight.
About waiting for a new room:
If you’re not familiar with Godot here is what’s happening: The game engine provide a way to manage Global Illumination for procedural environment but at the cost of some loading time, among other downsides. This loading time only happen once for each room, but depending on your hardware and the CPU usage it may be a bit long.
One thing I could do is to enforce the generation of at least 3 or 4 inital room. This is not ideal since it would make the initialization much much longer. But I could work around by adding some content or additional settings related to the gameplay of a given new game.
The current strategy i’m focusing on right now is to make the room less boring with more content (especially interactive content related to the lore). I assume that when the player is busy trying some stuff in a room, the waiting time feel shorter.
about hallway style areas
You are absolutely right. This is already scheduled and fall in the “architectural enhancement” category of new upcoming features.
