Greetings.

I've known of this game for some time but I didn't try it before now. But I'm having a very rough time enjoying this game (sim type?) as the days in the game are over way too quick. When I got to the Base, looked around, found a bed, placed down the bag, and started downloading my first signal, it was already something like 17:00. I had the impression that you would be doing mundane tasks and having lots of free time each day, but for me it's been nothing but a stress-rollercoaster where I run as fast as I can all over the place, trying to find the stuff and/or to fix something.

I'm in no way a quick gamer and I know I'm probably in the minority, but, to me, I'd probably need each in-game day to be increased by like 2-5 or maybe even 10 times for me to enjoy this game. And I don't know how often the spooky events happen, I hope they don't occur more than once per in-game week or so, but I doubt it. Though, I'm not expecting this to be the case, I'd just want a much slower game experience.

Anyway, I'm interested in knowing if there's a way to lower the speed of the in-game day and night cycle. I'm waaay too scared to go outside at night so that leaves only the sun-part of the days which are over in the flash of my bad eyes, more often than not because the character's stamina reduces really quickly and I can't guarantee being awake at the correct time. I hope there's a setting or something because I just can't enjoy this game as it is. My eyes and nerves aren't made for these sorta fast-paced games! ;)

Im 80% sure the difficulty is tied to how long days are, if nothing else it's tied to how much stuff you have to do.

Both + the day time setting if you REALLY need that extra time

Thank you for the reply.

I don't really understand what you wrote, are you saying that the longer the days, the harder the game becomes?

I'm one of those gamers that likes to stand and watch something for 10+ minutes, but in this game, those 10 minutes are a rather large part of the in-game day.

I try and not spoil the game as I'm very sensitive to such things. I noticed that there are upgrades to buy in the game, time saving upgrades for the computer and whatnot, but, sadly, it still wouldn't make the days any longer. I want to enjoy each day but at the moment, the stress is killing me, or at least my nerves as while I do want to experience some spooky events, I would never be able to handle them happening once per hour or so because of how fast each day races past me. :/

Easy++ makes days take longer, which can be paired with the day length setting to make days take pretty long.

The difficulty makes the game days longer or shorter? Huh, didn't think about that, at all. I need to check it out, thank you for telling me that! :D

the days are currently bugged, i suggest waiting for a stable realase before playing again

Thank you for the reply!

I saw that there was some sort of slider to increase/decrease in-game time but I couldn't change it yet as it's locked behind a specific in-game day? I don't know how much you can change it by, but if I can at least double the pace of each day, I can probably handle it, though I'd probably want speed closer to 3 or more times slower (sorry for the use of units).

Though, if it's bugged and doesn't work, then I guess I have no choice than to wait, and I assume you don't know how long it'll be until it's fixed? I was waiting to play this game for something like a year after learning of it, mostly because I was collecting myself to dare play it! :P

At the current speed, I just can't keep up with how fast the game wants me to be. I'd probably not chance that opinion even if I knew how to play the game as I like slower paced games in general.

The game is currently BROKEN. It says so on the download thingy.
I tried 0.9.0 myself and found it a bit hectic, as well as unbalanced. Can't imagine what it'll do to a new player.

To have more free time make days be longer (you can do that while creating your save file. Pretty sure you can also do that to an existing save).

If you want to see what the game is SUPPOSED to be like download the STABLE 0.8.0 version.  (You can do that by going into your library, find Voices of the Void, click on download and choose the Pre-Alpha 0.8.2c version.)

The team is working on bringing you the experience you're looking for/are expecting from the game. I know I'll play the hell out of the game once 0.9.0 stable comes out.

Thank you for the reply.

I read the warning on the file, but, I guess, I didn't think it was that bad. I don't really mind it neither, it was just how quick each day was. I kinda assumed the speed is how it was intended to be. And I wanted to give my opinion that for me, a new player, one who also spend a lot of time to do stuff like enjoying the ambiance, the day-night cycle was way too fast.

I'm sure I'm slower than normal players, but as a new player, every system will take a lot of time to figure out and, if I had to make a guess, it'll take like 10 in-game days for me to understand how to download signals, pack them and send them, and then how the food and stamina system works. And, probably, even longer for anything outside the base.

Still, I hoped there was some hidden setting where I could just add in a new number in some INI file somewhere. If not, then I guess I'll wait a little longer, or lots longer, for a more stable version. I just want to take my time in the game. :)

Play 0.8 then, I actually really recommend that version. There's also a mod for the version on Thunderstore which makes various aspects of the game go slower so if the day length setting still isn't enough, that may help. Then, when you've learned 0.8 and like the game, THEN try 0.9, as it changes a lot of things, but a few things are still the same. The learning curve will be less high, but still need to learn new but familiar things.

also, did the mandatory tutorial not teach you anything about the signal table? That seems like equally important feedback to give!

Thank you for your reply.

I might try that one instead, and I'll check out the mod you're talking about as well, thank you for the tip!

I followed the tutorial, it took me about 2 hours to go through so I probably forgot some stuff at the start. :P

so, other folks have mentioned already, but 0.9.0 is pretty wonky right now. not enough time in the day to do given tasks is a known issue, and also the build is very buggy and many of the settings on offer, like changing day speed, aren't functional in this build. you might have some better luck going back to the last stable build (0.8.2c), as you can actually reliably change the length of days there, plus all the other settings for a save file.

so, yeah, if you're dead set on playing 0.9.0, and you need the days to be longer, you'll have to wait for a bit longer. there's no real way to say when a stable release will be ready, but i imagine it will take a long while.

also i will say, you don't HAVE to do your tasks. 0.9.0 is a test branch. the gameplay loop is very unbalanced and has a lot of bugs, so you're fighting a losing game trying to do everything you're asked from day 1. and even if it were balanced, there isn't much actual consequence to not doing your daily tasks beyond just getting less money. (of course, there is a fine you can turn on in the settings, but i'm guessing you dont want that.) points are pretty important in this game, there's lots of great stuff in the shop, so you'll want to get points from somewhere, but there's plenty of methods. (my favorites are farming sugarcane and lemons by the river.) and the loop of finding signals IS a huge part of the game, but you don't really get many interesting signals early on. mostly i'd say start tidying up (sell a lot of the trash, it's fast money), find your preferred routes to the generators, and get comfortable.

if you're still overwhelmed, you might benefit from playing on ambience mode for a bit. it's basically the game without the spooky stuff, random or plot based, and you can use it to get used to the gameplay loop without being worried about spooky things. you'll have plenty of time to ignore your tasks and figure out some of the game mechanics the tutorial doesn't cover.

i am also a nervous gamer who (for some unknown reason) decided to get really interested in a horror game, if you still intend to play, either on 0.8.2c with a longer day, or 0.9.0 with the standard base time, i have a good amount of tips on how to keep yourself organized and not too stressed to enjoy the spooky things that pop up every once in a while. i can put together a list, if you'd like. otherwise, i hope you enjoy! i've had a lot of fun with this game, but i totally understand being overwhelmed by the days being so short. night time is scary!

Yes, I tried to read a little into this. And it seems to be a lot of issues.

But as I don't like being spoiled (I'm very easy spoiled) I hoped this game worked with that in mind, that there are people who, maybe aren't just like me but enough so to also feel like everything happens way too quickly.

And I assumed that I don't have to do all the tasks, but I'm also somewhat of a roleplayer and want to "play the role." I also don't want to do the "best thing that earns the most money," or something like that. I don't read guides, I don't watch videos, and I don't try and min-max stuff in games. I just want them to not be over too quickly as if I was expected to do such a thing.

While what you wrote about stuff by the rivers are what I'd call spoilers, I do not think it is anyone's fault than mine because I am the one coming to this forum. And I can't expect people to hide everything I find as spoilers, even less so when I find almost everything as spoilers (even knowing that you have the ability to throw stuff would be a spoiler to me). :P

And it's good to hear that I'm not the only nervous gamer. I love horror games, even when they torment me so! :P

What I hope with this game is another sort of not assuming that all players will play at such speed that there are spooky events every hour or so. I'd love for the spooky stuff to be something that only happens after several in-game days so you can feel like your character doesn't live in some insane fun-house circus where all sort of weird things happen every day. It would feel too weird to me if it happened that often. :/

I don't really want to play without the story or spooky events, just that they don't happen all the time. If they do, that is.

Anyway, thank you for wanting to make a list, but as you might have read and understood by now, I would probably find it too much of a spoiler. I want to be surprised by the game and what happens in it. I want to be the one who finds that good item to sell, or how the day-to-day task is best handled over time, naturally. Yes, I'm probably weird but that's how I like it…playing the game not the weird bit! :P

EDIT: Also, thank you for the reply, I forgot to write that one, sorry!

lol, fair enough. my apologies for the spoiling, i won't give you any more information you didn't ask for.

and i also enjoying a sort of roleplay! it's much more fun when you give yourself these atmospheric motivations to keep yourself invested in the game. i suppose my version of the player character is just a slacker then!

i saw that other response about easy++, so i hope that works and gets you the longer days you're hoping for.

Don't worry about it. I knew what could happen when posting here and I didn't assume people would not do it. :)

I took a quick check but the time on easier difficulty don't seem that different at all, though I will check in a new game if it has anything to do with that, tomorrow as I'm too much of a wimp to travel from start to the base this late at night (real life, 22:00)! :P

Again, don't worry about spoiling me. If it's something super spoiler'y, then I can probably stop reading most of it if that was to happen! :D

Still, thanks!

hi...you can change the day speed and difficulty from the save's settings

(+3)(-1)

Thank god you let them know, half a year later.
