From how you describe I think it's for the best, considering that the gun duel and Van body language talks for itself.
Unless it's in a voiceline form, I'm not sure how it would play out without breaking the railshooting phase, unless you find a way to add it that felt untuitive (because I don't know how it plays out) then I'm not sure how it might've been
