Breath of Vathys: This prelude is quite dynamic for the relatively short duration. You packed a lot into this track! The shifts in energy feel like the track is breathing - very musical! I really liked the choral textures that add an epic feel at the end. This works well as a prelude and sets up the next piece quite well.

By the King: This track does a really good job of telling a story through the music. The passing off from cello to strings with flute flourishes, and then to trumpet with the choral falling effect feels like a very cinematic symphonic intro. I really enjoyed the regal heroic adventure sections and how they interact with and contrast with the softer and flowing sections. The main motif is simple and works really well to convey a sense of royalty as your title suggests. The key change felt quite epic and adds a nice conclusion to the piece. This was an enjoyable listen and your composition skills shine here. I appreciate your notes about leaving interpretation up to the listener and it allowed me to imagine what rich cultures Vathys has. I’m curious which painting you were basing this off? Nice work on these and thank you for sharing!

Hey! Thank you so much for your thoughtful feedback — I’m really glad you enjoyed it. My goal was to create something profound (as the name “Vathys” suggests, which literally means “deep/abyssal”), but still full of life. Simple, yet powerful — that’s what I was aiming for.
And to answer your question, I based it entirely on what I felt when I looked at the Great Comet painting.

I certainly think you accomplished the alive with depth feeling! And that makes sense to me - I had assumed this because it sounds more terrestrial than what I would expect for the other two images. I think the profound nature and the emotional depth from the Great Comet painting is clear in your writing. Thanks for the response!
