Thanks! It's 2d. The snail is a sprite stack, basically a load of 2d images stacked on top of each other at an offset to mimic 3d.

That is really smart, kind of like parallax scrolling on a sprite. Pretty clever and creative. This and many other nuances add so much game feel to this simple and beautiful game.
