i am pretty sure browser versions are more popular simply because mobile users then have easy access to the game. you could just make an android build and it'd do the trick without having to optimize the game to run in a browser.
That's what I thought at first as well, but last time I tried it I got twice as many PC downloads than mobile. Itch isn't really a mobile game store
