Unfortunately, I am more than a hobby programmer and after a tough time with many setbacks, I developed an app. But unfortunately, I am no longer continuing with the app, even though it is still online. Because I simply couldn’t get any players into the game except my friends. I thought with a multiplayer game that a lot of people would play it together online. But unfortunately, it completely failed, even though it is a multiplayer game where even more effort had to be put in as a programmer with servers and so on. It just didn’t work out. My motivation decreased day by day. It also unfortunately has to do with my poor marketing. I unfortunately only told friends about it, never posted anything here or anything like that. After many months, I decide to leave my unfinished project as it is once and for all, unfinished. As an artist and creator of my game, this is the greatest defeat for me. But to process it, I will program a new game, again a multiplayer game, strategy, with all the experience and the losses in the hope of having learned and doing it better this time. Yes, I am a hobby programmer without support, alone, and I see myself more as an artist. This time I will complete my project, with good marketing. To all hobby programmers: You are not alone, we are all artists. And if we support each other and team up, we could create something awesome. Believe in yourselves, in your game, even if everyone is against you and doesn’t believe in it. In the end, if you have stuck with it, it will pay off. Promised!
im having a rather equal opinion on this as you state....and so i want to point out Im ccalling myself Game-Artist and not developer as my games are more like art, as they just simply erupt out of me, im never planing much in my maps im doing it and it comes out well, i mean did you guys experienced this as well: sometimes im making simple mistakes or misplacement errors or whatever, but once im looking what ive actually done, i come to realize that i did something the map/artwork is benefitting from ....
yeah, getting active players for your games can be even harder than making a good game imo, like making games is more a thing of how you will approach it, while getting good players is borderline rng based. You don't need to completly leave this project (even more because at least your friends are playing it), but maybe making a new game for now can be a good way to at least try being known lol
