It was really cool to see the "game develop" between levels and found the right path outve curiosity to see if the narrator would say something unique. Was a cool way of winning by losing. Would have been cool to see the ball projectiles turn to hitscan firing or just better force on the balls as the game developed. Overall a really cool project!

Developer

Oh, thank you for those ideas. They totally fit the game. I’m really happy you liked the story and the design. I’m grateful that you played it and took the time to write a comment.

Hey, sorry it took me a while to finally find the time.

I really liked the voice over!!! It was very fun to listen to. I think everyone who has ever made a game can relate to what you are saying. The bugs that keep coming back and not giving up is something we all know very well :)

Sadly I got stuck twice at the same place and had to watch your video. I think it is the same spot another comment mentioned, right in the middle. When you write "should I kill them all?" I did not really understand what to do. I tried to solve the level with the signs that say "- 1" instead. I shot all monsters except one and kited them through the arches hahaha.

So what is the meaning of the minus one signs? Please tell me they have some use. That part almost drove me crazy.

Overall I really enjoyed the game. The humor was exactly my taste and I think it fits the theme very well.

Developer

It’s absolutely fine. I actually only found the time to play all the games myself quite recently.

I’m really glad you liked the voice-over — it was done by one of my friends. And yes, those UE5 bugs and errors are a nightmare for me as well.

Unfortunately, the game design wasn’t as strong as I wanted it to be, and I had to rush it. The core idea was that instead of killing enemies to progress, you had to die in order to move forward. The level number is shown in the top-right corner of the screen, and reaching level -1 is the main objective.

Killing enemies moves you to higher levels, while dying moves you to lower ones — eventually even below the level you started at. If this explanation isn’t clear enough, please let me know and I’ll be happy to explain it in more detail.

The level numbers also have a subtle symbolic meaning, though I didn’t expand on it much in the game.

I really appreciate you taking the time to play the game and write such a detailed comment.

This is for sure really unique and fun idea! The voiceover is also well done. Good job!

Developer

Thanks a lot for checking out my game—it really means a lot. Were you able to reach the end without watching the walkthrough?

Submitted(+1)

Unfortunately not, I've got stuck at one point where there wasn't any more enemies, the game didn't progress and there wasn't anything obvious to do. Either way, I've enjoyed the concept.

Developer

Oh, sorry about that bug.

Do you remember which level it happened on? The level number is shown in the top-right corner of the screen.

You can also check the walkthrough to see exactly where it occurred. I’d really appreciate it.

It’s totally fine if you don’t remember.

Submitted(+1)

It was in the level 59. I've killed all the enemies, and I've got stuck.

Developer

Got it. Thanks for reporting the bug. The way out of that level was to get killed by the enemies instead of killing them. I’ll work more on my game design next time so it’s easier to understand.

I love it :) The constant attack on the 4th wall. Still checking each slice; thought I had it when I left 1 enemy alive... I will work this out :)

Developer(+1)

I'm so happy to hear you're enjoying the game! To reach the true ending, make sure you pay close attention to your surroundings—every detail matters. If you ever find yourself stuck, feel free to grab a hint by checking out this walkthrough:

I love the voice over. The gameplay was simple and pretty fun. I am not sure but I don't think I was able to reach the end. But overall a funny and interesting little jam game.

Developer(+1)

Thanks for playing and commenting! I didn’t have much time for playtesting during the jam, but the build is fully playable. If you’d like, you can check out the full walkthrough on YouTube:

I can see I got about half way through the game.

Developer(+1)

In that case, I should probably work on improving my game design skills.

Or I needs to be a better player.
