I don't know if it's a bug or if I'm really unlucky, but I don't think the Befriend Troll ability works, at all. I've met countless Trolls and subspecies of trolls across many runs, and no matter the ability's level, I could never charm any of them the 1st time I entered their square. I think it's a bug.
