It's not a dedicated current status site like you're imagining, but I just found out that the itch.io Discord seems to be the place for the type of news you're looking for, and I'm surprised it hasn't been recommended by anyone for this purpose. The below is from the "news" channel:

That's because itch.io staff doesn't monitor the Discord either. Our admins reply there more often, but most of the time you still have to use the proper channels to get support, just like here.

(Plus, people shouldn't have to join the Discord if they don't want to.  We have a perfectly good forum right here.)

Sure, it's just in lieu of a status update website, the Discord seems to be a very good source of info on the current status of the site. (For example, I wouldn't have tried to report the images-not-loading issue here on the forum if I had been a member of the Discord and seen the news item mentioning it.)

I think we're on the same page, but it's a little unclear what constitutes a proper channel used by itch.io staff- Between the forum, Discord, Github issue tracker, and support email, where should folks be reporting general issues with the site and/or suggesting features so that staff or admins will actually be able to see them?

Normally bug reports and feature suggestions should go to GitHub. Not sure about the status of the Ideas&Feedback forum category. For other issues, you pretty much have to e-mail support. This category is for asking other members to help, in case it's a problem that can be solved without involving support.

It's true that our admins post updates more often on Discord, so people who can and want to join are welcome to.
